I read you critics and want to explain a few this about the climbing site
1- I work in that place since 2011 as guide and did not open the climbing routes. These routes were open by Serge Koenig, if you have any questions, you can ask him directly.
2- Cliffs in Jinji Valley are made of soft sandstone and it is unclimbable. This place used to be a old rock quarry where local people extract rock for many years. Jinji valley is not Siguniang! Climbing roads in ancient quarry exist in other country like USA(Kingstone,Oyo,Rock climbing sandstone quarry area…), France (near Paris, Marseille, Grenoble, Geneva,Colmar...) .If in this country they have done this, why an unusable quarry in China could not become a place to train for technical climbing ?
3- You criticize bolted cracks in Pingle but you do not know the situation. The sandstone is so soft that the bolts are fixed with glue 70cm into the rock. If you use steal nuts or cames, it will be so dangerous and will destroy the training place. Or you could come and climb the
cracks like in eastern Germany, in Elbsandstein, where the climbers longtime climbed softcracks and protect themselves with nuts made by a rope.
4- Jinji Valley is a outdoor park with hiking, climbing, hanging bridge and especially the first via ferrata in China (built in 2010). In France you can find more as 300 via ferrata in cliffs. That`s a steel way between hiking and climbing and now around 5 via ferrata was build in China. This activity is also not completely natural but people, especially beginners, love it.
5-I like climbing as you. I learned all the cracks techniques in Pingle because no other places with cracks around Chengdu. And laojunshan in Yunnan is too far to go there often. I personally also prefer outdoor natural climbing as artificial in indoor. But to see climbing exclusively just “or natural in outdoor” “or artificial in indoor” is like to see the life in white or black, everything or nothing, without any shades. If you want 100% nature , when you go to climbing or mountaineering, you should not take airplane or bus, just run or walk to there? Climbing in Pingle is on a naturel support, in a natural bamboos environment, with perhaps 60% of the holds or cracks hand made. It is probably less interesting as a good 100% natural climbing, but nicer as indoor.
6- I understand that the big passionate people always militant in favor of high level and very important ideals. I suggest to look around us, the increasing way of the world, of the city, increasing of the pollution, of the rubbishes, global warming… Instead some holds handmade in a ancient carry,I think we could find probably more important stakes to discuss between nature lowers and people who are sensible about nature protection.
People who want to come to Pingle are welcome. I hope I have explain more about this situation and people can get the facts straight. For any question you can contact me.
Friendly regards
