So after trying to find a description or review of the click up I just decided to buy it and see what it was like. It is basically an ATC that stays locked once you stop the fall, but you need to stop the fall yourself. So basically, right in between an atc and a grigri.
This device is great. I've tried several belaying devices (ATC, reverso, grigri, stitch plate, trango pyramid, etc) and i can say that the click up is one of the better ones I have used. Feeding rope to a leader is smooth (i have a 10mm rope) although you do feel a little bit of resistance but not too bad. Once the climber takes/falls it locks and you don't have to hold the rope at all (although you should keep your hands on the rope!). Lowering the climber is easy and smooth and quite easy to control (very incremental release). |
