Sam:
Fyi, TNF changes their half-bag's insulation material this year, now I believe both half-bags using the same thickness of Primaloft as the insulation, so the major difference are shell materials and price.
There is the spec. for the old version of TNF hal-bag:

With the existence of Wild Things army surplus version, that price surely is a bargain!!! Now is the task to find a suitable down pants to accompany this Wild Things' half-bag, as I am sure that can not be used at -10 degree C alone.
I agree Down is not the best material to be used at that part of China, as it will lose certain degree of loft due to the dump/humid air. In fact, the higher the fill-power the loft losing is more notable. Unfortunately, in these -10 degree C temperature range, a down half-bag still lighter and compressed smaller than a primaloft half-bag + down pants or a primaloft half-bag + primaloft pants, so if I put myself in such extreme climbing activity (of course I don't have this ability) for one night bivouac, I will choose down instead of primaloft, but taking extreme precaution to not allow any water going inside the down half bag, carrying something like a survival blanket for additional covering when in downpour is a must. |
